Echoes of Euharlee
This body of work is a visual exploration of Euharlee, Georgia, a small town west of Cartersville in Bartow County, home to just over 4,000 residents. Known historically for its Covered Bridge, a relic of past commerce and travel, Euharlee’s contemporary identity is dominated by the presence of Plant Bowen—one of the largest coal-fired power plants in North America. While the plant provides economic stability for many local families, it also leaves behind invisible traces of environmental and social impact, magnified by two significant explosions that went largely unaddressed.
My in-laws and girlfriend have lived in Euharlee for several years, and my time there has deepened my curiosity about its dynamics. With Plant Bowen scheduled to close in 2027, this project gains a sense of urgency. The closure marks a pivotal shift for the community, as residents face the loss of economic stability while grappling with the plant’s environmental legacy.
